MEET MEKDES & SELAM
If you've read a brief introduction on the Project ME page you've gotten to know a little bit about these Mekdes and Selam! I met them on my second trip in 2015 while I was researching in the Hope House, to read more about my experiences please check out my senior thesis.
Mekdes is a strong single mother who has currently fallen in had times. I've watched her pour her all into her daughter and wants nothing but the best for her! There is a list of things that they need which will be constantly updated. Below that section I've posted links of some of the item that can be purchased online, although many things can be bought at your local dollar store.
Thankfully after a relapse, Mekdes has been out of prostitution for over 2 years! Due to unforeseen circumstances she had fallen back into prostitution in order to provide for her daughter. The emotional toll of her divorce as well as loss of income was overwhelming. Dear Ethiopia worked aggressively to stop this! Praise God she is stable now!
For the past 2 years Mekdes has been and will continue to receiving full rental support, and Selam is school fees (monthly) & school supplies are being covered. Mekdes is working at a local factory for a source of income, but still isnt enough to cover her basic needs. Selam is also apart of our After School Program and receives tutoring, and meal support. Leapfrog Tablet/Used iPad- Educational purposes. School fees: $25 *Clothes: size 7t Panties, Shoes, socks Toys (she loves baby dolls and barbies) Colouring books Reading books English ABC practice books Crayons, pencils |
