ABOUT DEAR ETHIOPIASince the beginning God has been moving tremendously. It started with a prayer, then a journal, then an internship, a thesis, and now finally, starting our own After School program combating human trafficking. "He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker,But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy." -Proverbs 14:31 (NKJV) It seems like instantaneously God instilled this verse in me. Originally it was DearEthiopia.Tumblr.com, and now it has now been blessed with its own domain. I first went to Ethiopia July of 2014 for a social work internship, where I raised approx. $5000 and over 60lb of donated items! That following year, I was so moved I got to the opportunity to conduct my research thesis (which you can read) on studying women coming out of prostitution. I partnered with an local organization targeting this demographic for 100 days of research. Now we have recently launched our very own After School Program to break the cycle of human trafficking. This free after school program is located in a room of a church that is purposely planted in the middle of the brothel district of Debre Zeyit. Where the daughters of those who are at risk for being trafficked essentially have a refuge. It is important to keep our girls safe! They are at an extremely high risk and exposed to high vulnerabilities to being trafficked and sold as sex slaves. Please click HERE to read about our vision for this specific project. Dear Ethiopia isn't just a journal, or a bunch of hopeful wishes. As of now we have an After School Program for at risk girls vulnerable to trafficking; I eventually would love to expand to a school, cafe, restaurant and many more catering to anyone vulnerable to extreme poverty. For latest updates please check out the Blog tab where you can walk with me on my journey. Matthew 28:18-20 |
